Mesothelioma and asbestos exposure in Corpus Christi

The refineries along the Corpus Christi Ship Channel, sometimes called Refinery Row, processed crude oil and natural gas liquids for decades. Like other Gulf Coast plants, they relied on asbestos insulation on heaters, towers and steam lines, plus asbestos gaskets and valve packing. Maintenance crews and contractors cut and replaced these materials during repairs, and operators worked beside insulated equipment that aged and crumbled over time. Older aircraft and buildings used asbestos in brakes, insulation and heat shields, and hangar and depot workers could be exposed during repairs. Veterans and civilian employees from these facilities may have exposure histories that support both VA benefits and legal claims. The Navy and Army facilities also depended on steam plants, boilers and older hangars built during the years when asbestos was a standard building material.
