Mesothelioma and asbestos exposure in Toledo

Glassmaking shaped Toledo's economy for more than a century. Glass furnaces run at extreme temperatures, and asbestos was used for insulation, heat-resistant gloves and equipment. Workers who maintained furnaces and handled hot glass could be exposed daily. Toledo was also the headquarters city for large glass and insulation companies, some of which made or sold asbestos-containing insulation products used around the country.
